At Full Council tonight at Rochford District Council, Ron Oatham asked who the council bought their electricity from – the implication being that if it was Eon, we should switch to someone else.

Ron’s not had a proper answer yet, but hopefully we will find out soon.

  • Absolutely agree Ron, If the Council use E-ON for our energy we should switch to another provider. My daughter and her boyfriend and many of our friends used E-ON, not anymore!

  • This is a very slippery slope – not all council tax payers will feel the same as you and will want RDC to go with which ever supplier gives the best value for money. You may make the personal choice to switch but you cannot impose that view on others.

  • I can see your point if view here, RR, but I think the situation with Eon is just about unique.

However it seems that RDC is part of a consortium of local authorities that buy direct from the national grid, so we are unlikely to deal with Eon anyway.

  • This matter was also raised by me at the Town Council and the Town Clerk had already switched to Scottish Power as a cheaper option. So no problem for RDC just change as well. Cheaper and point made about closure.
