We had the followng email today from an onlinefocus reader:

Chris – I’ve just had a call from a so-called ‘National Crime Research Group’, representing SAS Security – which is a scam, as you can see here:

I wondered if we might alert people that this is not what it seems?

The ‘National Crime Research Group’ are not a public body, just a private company. These people offer ‘free alarms’ , but you have to pay them to fit them for you……. so they are not free at all.

  • I had a call from the National Crime Research Group yesterday. They hung up when I started asking questions.

Thanks for the link, it confirmed what I suspected.

  • I received a phone call from an Indian call centre last night, informing me that my house on the DPW estate qualifies for a Government grant to upgrade the insulation in the loft and/or walls. Apparently a local company will phone me in a couple of days’ time and arrange to come round to give me a no-obligation quote. The Government will cover 50% of the costs via the energy companies.

Has anyone else in the area received similar calls? I’d be interested to know what the cavity wall insulation costs (although at only 13 years old, you’d think the insulation in the house would be to a pretty good standard). However I’m never keen to take up offers from unsolicited cold callers. I’m on the telephone preference list to prevent this kind of tele-marketing.
