The District Council has a statement on its website here.
The crux of the matter is this:
“The circus has never been and is currently not located on land owned by Rochford District Council. This means the Council is unable to prohibit these activities.”
Please clarify this point. There was a letter / article listing many District Councillors opposed to animals in a circus. There is a circus in Rochford but because this circus, with tigers, is not on council land there is nothing that can be done about this situation?
Well, I’ve asked some questions and I’m told that RDC can’t do anything because the circus is in Southend.
Which confuses me a bit when I re-read whats on the RDC website.
Where does Rochford end and Southend start? I thought Warners Bridge but I may be mistaken. I will not be going and hope that people who wish to see tigers try Colchester Zoo.
Does anyone know who owns the land that the circus is camped on?
Good question Mike – I don’t know – does anybody else know?
To find out the ownership you would have to go to the Land Registry.
By the way, I do NOT think the land is owned by a councillor, or councillor’s family.
