The District Council has a statement on its website here.

The crux of the matter is this:

“The circus has never been and is currently not located on land owned by Rochford District Council. This means the Council is unable to prohibit these activities.”

  • Please clarify this point. There was a letter / article listing many District Councillors opposed to animals in a circus. There is a circus in Rochford but because this circus, with tigers, is not on council land there is nothing that can be done about this situation?

  • Where does Rochford end and Southend start? I thought Warners Bridge but I may be mistaken. I will not be going and hope that people who wish to see tigers try Colchester Zoo.
