As you may have seen in the news , the new website www.police.uk
Just type in the name of your town, village , street or postcode, and you can get information on crime in your area.
For example, there were just 4 burglaries in Rayleigh in December – a pretty low figure for a town of over 30,000 people.
There’s other information there as well, for example:
Next event in this area
Beat Surgery. 3rd February 2011, 1:00p.m. at Asdas Rawreth Lane Rayleigh
If you want to compare Rayleigh with Rochford, the latter had 3 burgaries:
4 burglaries is a low figure but it does not tell the whole story – put in SS6 and it shows 49 instances of anti social behaviour in December alone.
Probably a good idea, but from what I saw on the news last night it may be a little misleading at times. My understanding is that due to privacy requirements and the availability of accurate locations to list crimes against, some postcodes can get crimes from surrounding areas attributed to them, making a particular street look worse than it really is.
I like the idea of adding further information as the site develops. Would like to see the results of traffic accident investigations added, so you can find out the cause of accidents that have happened locally and hopefully come up with good ideas of how to reduce risks.
The link to http://www.police.uk isn’t working. Surely it hasn’t been taken down already!! Keep getting message saying URL not found.
Sorry RR1 – there was something wrong with our link – should be OK now
