From yesterday, Ian Jordan reported a deep pothole near Rayleigh Station “Pothole opposite entrance to Station Car Park, Hazard to cycles riding up Crown Hill”

And today, three potholes reported at Hambro Parade, Hullbridge Road and near Bedloes Corner.

  • The good thing about FixMyStreet.com is that many people are logged onto a computer at some time during the day, so it’s easier to report an issue than to have to dig out a phone number for the council, make a call, wait to get transferred etc..

There were a few potholes for the Hambro Parade area listed on the FixMyStreet website, but the reports were from last year, and the photos didn’t appear to reflect the recent one near the giveway lines to the roundabout. I hit this one in my car the other day and am now thinking I’ll need to get my tracking checked out.

I think a lot of potholes occur where the road has been patched, and this area seems to have a lot of patches. Can’t wait to see the effect of the gas mains work, their repairs are pretty lumpy anyway, so if they start breaking up in the bad weather our local roads are going to be a real mess.

  • Thanks Stuart (I assume) for reporting these potholes. I’m of the same opinion we should get these to councils asap. I just find it so unacceptable any council can get away with poor or slow repairs to road surfaces given the tax drivers pay.

Incidentally I complained to Essex Highways about the ‘poor’ gas works surface repairs in Rayleigh and the ridiculously bumpy Downhall Road. Apparently, the council have a deal with Transco / British Gas that any damage is fixed under a guarantee (we’ll see).

As to the ‘poor’ resurfacing (which i think is shocking) they are within EU tolerance levels of 10 or 12mm above road surface. Amazing eh !!!

  • But noT anymore as work started today on the Hullbridge Road holes. So well done to Highways and to all of us moaners who take the trouble to complain.

  • Well done Highways I reported several pot holes within Rayleigh through Rayleigh Town Council, that way our office then receives an email confirming receipt of report and I am pleased to say they have all been done. Keep up the good work.
