The Echo have a preview of tomorrow night’s LDF meeting here.

….Tory members of Rochford District Council were due to meet behind closed doors last night to decide whether or not they will back the core development strategy.

The plans will go to a special meeting of the full council tomorrow, and if agreed they will then go to a public inquiry, to be held at a later date.

Liberal Democrat and Independent members of the council are expected to oppose the plans, because of the volume of housing involved, particularly what is proposed for Rayleigh, Rawreth and Hawkwell.

Keith Hudson, councillor responsible for planning, said: ?I think the vast majority of the strategy is acceptable as it stands, but there are still a lot of concerns about housing. ….

  • Of course there is reservations about building in Rayleigh, we have taken as much as is tolerable in this town. If we are pressurised to take more this will be the end of the tories (lower case intentional) in Rochford District Council.

  • Mike

This is what Keith Hudson said to the paper this time and has said before.

“Provided there is a change of government next year, the Conservatives have made it clear these figures and all involved with them are going to be scrapped.”

The Local Conservative Candidates are either (depends which election comes first) going to say “we are going to do this provided you elect us now and to Government” or “you have elected us to Government and we are going to or we have scrapped all of this and saved the day, so vote for us”.

    This IS politics.

Do you think that they will be able to scrap all these figures and all involved with them? Or could that leave the stage open for the free for all in planning applications that is promised if we do not have the adopted Core Strategy.

Interested in everyone’s views on here.

  • John, what we need is a change in policy on housing. We also need the Councillors to take our needs and fears, understand them and act accordingly. The councillors here have the Maggie Thatcher syndrome. They think they will always be voted in so there is no need to listen to our views. Well the sands are shifting and shifting away from the Tories. Something in my brain keeps telling me that Hockley has the Grand Total of 50 houses being built there, John, is that still the case? The councillor for Hockley has done very well?

Rayleigh cannot take the amount of houses that the planning department / portfolio holder wants to dump on us. How many times do we have to tell the Council this??????

We will end up with far more social problems than we have now and they are increasing. The infrastructure here is a joke and the policing is practically non existent.

God save us if we get these extra houses!!
