The West Area Committee of the District Council will meet in January , and then again on March 4th at Rawreth Village Hall.

As the police and the youth service are already scheduled to attend on March 4th, this seemed to be the obvious meeting to discuss the proposal for a Teen Shelter in Sweyne Park. It would give residents , councillors and officers a chance to speak on this before a decision is taken…

Chris Black has spoken to the chairman of the committee, Councillor John Pullen, he is agreeable to it being on the agenda, and the council’s committee section have been informed accordingly. We look to forward to seeing some onlineFOCUS readers there….

  • Thanks for delaying this decision Chris. (I will pencil this date into my new diary that I will almost certainly get for Christmas!)
Having seen the recent negative coverage about the Teen Shelter at Clements Hall I can only hope that RDC will see sense and refuse permission for the Teen Shelter in Sweyne Park. This area is in dire need of supervised activities for Youngsters not another excuse for youths to congregate and cause havoc. We already have enough problems with the unsupervised open all hours Skate Park in Priory Chase and once the football pitches in Priory Chase are operating youths from outside the area will also be encouraged to “visit”. Sadly I don’t think it will be long before we see an escalation of anti-social behaviour similar to, or worse than, that at Clements Hall.
Perhaps an alternative to the shelter can be suggested at the meeting on March 4th such as the aforementioned Teen Cafe idea i.e. for local kids only? This may cost more money but would be more beneficial to the youngsters and therefore the community in the long term.
