Strong Feelings Over Surestart At Downhall

Concerns are still running very high in the Downhall area regarding the proposed Surestart at Downhall School. We know that some local residents/parents are organising the following petition, which we understand already has over 300 names. Excluding elections, this is the biggest political activity in Downhall for quite a while.

Stop The Proposed Development At Downhall County Primary School !

To Rayleigh / Rochford District Council.

We the undersigned wish to STRONGLY OBJECT to the proposed building for the New Sure Start Children?s Centre at Downhall County Primary School.
As a community we are against this development and feel it is unnecessary and unwanted in this location. We feel that the school children will not benefit but lose out and suffer, with the disruptive and distracting sounds of crying babies, noisy toddlers and parents talking when arriving, leaving and playing in the Children?s Centre. Although we understand what Sure Start and Downhall County Primary School are trying to achieve we feel this centre would be best placed away from this small school in a more suitable environment, that does not take away valuable (already insufficient) playground space especially in a time when childhood obesity is on the increase. Somewhere that has more accessible access roads and where there are proper parking facilities (ie by the farm shop, by Asda or St Nicholas School). As a community we are very concerned on the safety of our school children and what this centre could offer in years to come.
No risk (no matter how small) should be placed on vulnerable school children !
(This has been written without prejudice)

A mentioned before if you have any views or questions on this we would be pleased to receive your emails, however on this partiuclar item comments are disabled.

  • Whilst agreeing that there is insufficent parking at Downhall, there is actually less provided at St. Nicks. There are barely enough for the staff and with county ,s new policy none for parents at all ,hence the triple parking at school close .I think we must be aware that County are again trying to do things on the cheap .There should be no compromise for the future generations welfare and nothing short of purpose built facilities be provided.Would have been a good site where the new football pitches are to be provided behind the leisure centre !!
