We have also received the following information from Essex Farmers Markets:

RAYLEIGH ALL SET FOR FARMERS MARKET

“Regular shoppers to Rayleigh?s market will soon be tasting new delights courtesy of the ever popular Essex Farmers Market. The increasingly popular market will be setting up alongside the existing market on the last Wednesday of every month.

?We are delighted to be invited to work alongside the current stall holders? Organiser Ian Chisholm enthuses ?We are always on the look out for new venues in order to reach more people and Rayleigh can now look forward to an exciting and varied market where quality and good value is guaranteed.?

Shoppers will be able to browse stalls selling a great choice of top quality fresh and local produce, including ethically reared organic and rare breed meats and game, fish, farm fresh fruit and vegetables, free-range eggs, fresh juices, organic breads and cakes.

?Our stall holders are passionate about their produce, all of them having been involved either in the rearing, growing or making of the produce and are more than happy to share tips ? even recipes!? Ian explains.

So, calling all Rayleigh ?foodies?, why not go along and discover for yourself, on Wednesday the 29th, at Rayleigh Market Place opposite Rayleigh Church from 9am to 2pm, just how good food can taste.

  • I am so upset by this why are you holding a farmers market on a wednesday?, for us people that are lucky enough to still have a job, we do not have the chance to attend this, why does Rayleigh Council never do anything for people that have to work!!!
Saturdays would be much better as there are more people at home, I fear this may fall at the first hurdle as you are not doing this on a good day.
Rayleigh is mostly a commuter town, I know loads of people that would love to attend something like this but will not be able to because its on a week day…..

  • Hi, I really appreciate how you feel – I work full time as well.

But this ISN’T being arranged by the council or by councillors – it’s a private venture that is seemingly being done to augment the existing Wednesday market. It will help the town centre a bit, but, yes, it’s no good for people who work full time.

It’s also a separate venture from any Farmers Market that Rayleigh Town Council and Rochford District Council have discussed , which would be an occasional event on a big scale that would involve closing part of the High Street from the corner of Bellingham Lane up to the Church.

PERHAPS if this succeeds in a small way then the our local councils might find a way of encouraging it on a Saturday every month, I’m sure the people who arranging the market will be monitoring what our readers say here…..
