The Echo have an interesting story here

BAILIFFS are hounding a motorist over an unpaid parking fine ? even though she has proved she has never owned the car.
Paula Griffiths, 58, of Little Wakering Road, Rochford, received the ?75 fine from Rochford District Council at the beginning of the year.

It was in her name, but the DVLA has confirmed she has never owned the car.
Ms Griffiths says the council is still pursuing her even though she handed over a letter from the DVLA to say she has never been the registered keeper of the car.

She said: ?Rochford Council sent the bailiffs round to me and the amount had gone up to ?185. They said if I didn?t pay some of it, they were going to clamp my car. I gave them ?100 and they said they would be back to get the ?85 by the end of the month…..

It would be interesting to know the opinion of the relevant portfolio holder on this. (That’s the councillor in charge of this service).

  • She should take out a small claims court claim for the £100 plus costs, that would likely stop them taking further action. What possessed her to pay the £100 when she’s innocent anyway, I doubt they could clamp her current car just like that unless they were going to clamp the offending car!! Sounds like bully boy tactics to me that the council should deal with accordingly.
