If you get a leaflet through the door from any political party – whether you live in Rochford, Rayleigh, Ashingdon or wherever- and want to talk to us about it , please send Chris Black an email at cllrchrisblack@googlemail.com

  • Reading the recent leaflet from our Conservative MP – he seems to do a lot of worthy work and campaigning for almost everywhere except Rayleigh/Rawreth?
Is this because Our Local Councillors are Lib Dem and there is no local political dialouge with him?
Or is it because he is not engaged with the community that he actually resides in – given that the majority are presumably Lib Dem Voters?
Or is it just a case of “I’m alright Jack?”

  • I like to think that Ron and I, as his own district councillors, can have a cordial dialogue with Mark Francois when appropriate.

And, if – totally hypothetically – he agreed with us on some local issues he could hardly put that into a leaflet, could he?

  • I have noticed that here in the Rochford District/Rayleigh constituency that people with different political views will often work together to address local people’s concerns. As a Labour Parish Councillor I often come in contact with people from the Liberal Democrat and Conservative Parties, have always been treated with respect and have found it easy to discuss local issues when need be.

  • We need your help!!

HULLBRIDGE SPORTS has provided sports and leisure facilities in the local community for over 50 years since inception in 1945.
During this time a great many of the young people in the village have enjoyed the facilities and have participated in the many sporting activities on offer. Indeed many of the early participants, now watch their children
And grandchildren play at Lower Road.

THE FOOTBALL SECTION NOW NEED YOUR HELP.
    WHY?

You may have read in the press that the FA has indicated that every club at step 5 must have a F ground grading and this includes a 100 seated stand.
To preserve current senior status without which we’ll lose FA CUP and FA Vase entry we must install a seated stand.

THE COST WILL BE SIGNIFICANT,ESTIMATED IN EXCESS OF…£ 20000.00

A ground development account has been set up and a planning application has been logged to Rochford Council. We need the local community and potential sponsors to step forward and give financial assistance by making a direct donation to the club for the project. The 1st team is also looking for sponsors for season 2009-10. Any donation will be greatly appreciated and will help ensure that senior level football continues to be played at Lower Road and eventually the club can progress to higher level in years to come.
    TOGETHER,WE CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN

  • Hi Geoff. I’ve had a quick look at the leaflet. (though I didn’t get one myself). They look such friendly and cuddly people, I’m surprised their picture didn’t include a couple of fluffy bunny rabbits 🙂

I personally think that leaving the EU would make the economy a great deal more wrecked than it is now. But if someone is pro-withdrawal , there are honourable and more honest parties like the English Democrats and UKIP to chose from in the Euroelections.

Because the BNP hasn’t changed from it’s nasty roots. And voting for a party who’s leader has said on TV that the Holocaust didn’t occue is just plain dumb. Here’s another bit of TV showing thir leader telling the Klu Klux Klan how they plan to change their superficial image:

  • Chris,
I’m sure their is good and bad in all political parties including the Lib/Dem’s? Some parties were born out of extremism as was the Labour party once. I’m sure the BNP are not all cuddly – thou if they were i don’t think it would make any difference they are competition right? As for UKIP they are just an establishment pressure release valve wheeled out and funded when needed then put back in it’s box. The Eng/Dem’s is a wasted vote. I’m surprised the 3 main parties aren’t aware of the hostility to the EU by the grass root voters. Anyway the holocaust denial has been withdrawn in fact was never denied but disputed which is different. I believe a Tory stepped in the same minefield recently, It’s one of those subjects politicians enter at their own peril! I dunno about you Chris but I am more concerned about Britain’s future not Germany’s past. I’m sure the BNP are not all cuddly, but I am equally sure they are not that different to any one else.

    Regards
    Geoff.

  • Surely it is by studying the human past (and Britain’s past is inextricably linked with that of Germany) that we can work towards a better future?

The politics of the BNP are based on hatred and division. There may be elements of those traits in all political parties but their policies are generally borne out of a desire to promote the well-being of all members of society, not just those deemed racially acceptable.

God help us if we do not try to learn from the mistakes of the past.

  • Alison,

Our past is linked to the Germans in respect of our declaring war on them twice in the 20th century I agree, And of course both countries were Imperial in their ambitions at the time which led to untold suffering in the world. Do you think we have learned our lesson? Are we building a better future? I think thats another debate which i am glad to have with you. I think debate is a good thing, isn’t it?

You see when you deny others a voice because they have differing political views as you remarks seem to imply, then that is a kind of politically correct neo-fascism (I’m not implying you are one). The BNP may well be promoting well being – just not your kind of well being, I read they want all Gurkha’s who have served Britain regardless of length of service to be allowed to live here automatically. That was before Nick Clegg’s statement. I also read they want Britain to be neutral like Switzerland and not involved in foreign wars. think of the money and lives that would save? What I’m trying to say is yes disagree and debate issues but don’t try and stifle debate with PC statements (hate & division) from New Labour, we are better than that on here.

  • If this much quoted statement in 1998 by Nick Griffin is not a denial i don’t know what is

“I am well aware that the orthodox opinion is that 6 million Jews were gassed and cremated or turned into lampshades. Orthodox opinion also once held that the earth is flat… I have reached the conclusion that the ‘extermination’ tale is a mixture of Allied wartime propaganda, extremely profitable lie, and latter-day witch-hysteria.”

  • Geoff,
I don’t believe that it is PC to say that the BNP promote politics of hatred and division. Neither do I accept that I was stifling debate by stating so.
There are some of us who do try to learn from our mistakes and try to build a better world.

  • Alison,

It is PC to make sweeping statements like you did and an insult to people who vote for that party (not saying I do)because you don’t really know what your talking about – however i accept you weren’t trying to stifle debate, you just didn’t know enough on the subject to have one. Alison, we all want a better world on that we can agree – taking it down to a more local level, let’s say Great Britain. How do you propose we build one?

  • Here is a good starting point:
Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
