LDF Sub-Committee Meets On July 1st

A crucial sub-committee of the District Council will meet on July 1st to discuss housing and employment proposals and related issues.

The Local Development Framework Sub-Committee consists of 6 councillors – 5 Conservatives plus Chris Black. It will meet at 7:30 on July 1st in Room 4 at the Civic Suite in Rayleigh. (Unfortunately this is exactly the same time as the July meeting of Rawreth Parish Council!)

A few days before the meeting, we’ll get copies of the council’s new version of the Local Development Framework plan – this is the document that will be up for discussion. If the sub-committee approves the plan, it will then go to full council on July 28th. After that there will be another round of public consultation and a public inquiry headed by a government planning inspector.

  • Sometimes it’s good just to go along to these meetings anyway. It can be a bit of an eye-opener, for instance on one occasion there was a question from one councillor put to the planning department as to the definition of social housing. The representative of the planning dept said that he’d email to the councillor. Infer from that what you will. Then there was the curious incident of a district councillor proposing a fellow party member onto the panel of a local community centre, shamefully ignoring the existence of the other ward councillor who had been working tirelessly in that particular area. Most illuminating.
