Is Rochford District Council Being A Responsible Landlord?

The old Crown Hill public toilets have stood empty since they were deemed unfit by the Conservative administration at Rochford District Council. With little interest in the property, it seems they have almost grabbed whatever opportunity that has come along to lease the building out with very little thought about their responsibilities to the public.

The licencing application for the old public conveniences at the top of Crown Hill is really taking the pee! Not only do they want to serve alcoholic beverages within this building, but they want a 54 outdoor seating area alongside the pavement! Bang opposite this site, we have the Crown Public House with outside seating for a similar number of people, but in a MUCH larger area and with a wall and fence between pavement and drinkers.  Can you imagine, a warm summer evening with potentially 100+ drinkers on opposing sides of Crown Hill – is this really what our town wants?

Liberal Democrat candidate for Wheatley ward, Andrew Cross told onlineFOCUS “I am standing for Wheatley Ward in the Council elections on 5th May and if elected, I will vehemently oppose the conversion of this building to a licenced premises and the ridiculous notion of outdoor seating for 54 drinkers. The Town is not short of licenced premises and surely another business use for this building can be sought?”
