It used to be easy to deal with highways problems. First of all you’d say to yourself “How unusual, that’s a pothole” and then phone or write to one of the County Highways engineers that you knew.
Nowadays it’s a lot harder. Yeah, you can report problems online, but they often still don’t get dealt with. As district councillors we have often been advised to report them via the District Council. But last week they they told Chris Black “We don’t know whom to call anymore”.
Of course the County Council does have phone numbers. But when local Lib Dem Chris Stanley phoned up to report several potholes in Rayleigh, he ended up speaking to someone in Colcehster, who said “Is that Coggeshall or Braintree?”.
To try and shed some light on this, Chris Black has just submitted a Freedom of Information request to the County Council. It’s a bit drastic, but it might help:
Can’t help feeling that they are hiding behind a mass of bureacracy to avoid having contact with the ordinary people, as well as moving further away from us (almost to the London borders)
Or am I being too cynical?
The County Council have acknowledged my request, but I haven’t got any answers yet.
One Conservative Councillor has sent me a very positive message – I won’t go into details , but she thinks this is a good idea
Am I alone in wondering why there are no notices warning about the A13 closure this weekend?
Nothing on the message board on the A127 just past Rayleigh Weir?
Admin, I returned from a few days in Hampshire on Sunday. Not a single warning sign in sight.
