Thanks to everyone who emailed us about the road accident in Downhall Park Way at about 11 pm Saturday evening – a car overturned near the bend by the park. We do hope that the occupants are OK.
We have passed the information we got from local residents – by email and visiting houses – onto County Highways , County Councillor Stephen Castle and Mark Francois MP. Parking restrictions on this bend and at the junction with Salisbury Close are overdue….
I have often wondered how long it would take the inconsiderate parkers that live along this stretch of road, and those that don’t but see it as a free car park, to cause an accident.
Drivers approaching from the Rawreth Lane end also pay little heed to the rules of the road on this bend and drivers coming out of Salisbury Close and other nearby roads also assume that the double white lines are their open invitation to pull out of these turnings at high speed!!
Surely it has got to be time for restrictions to be put in place
Do we know where exactly the yellow lines will be placed? Parking arount the junction with Lincoln Way is also dangerous (I recently had a car pull out on me here – restricted vision due to cars/vans parked too close to junction, combined with cars parked opposite forcing traffic onto the wrong side).
Also, from the Rawreth lights to Kelso Close should be restricted to make the stretch safer and to prevent the traffic lights being triggered unnecessarily when cars are forced onto the wrong side of the road when they turn into the estate.
Would be interesting to know what the exact cause of the accident was.
What was the speed that this car was travelling at ?
I actually live a short distance from Sweyne Park and heard the vehicle travelling down the road on Saturday night. I had a sense from the speed the vehicle was travelling something would happen and then came the noise! My first thought was the vehicle had hit the few cars which are always parked in the road near to the park as this is very dangerous when I have to pull onto the other side of the road to get into my driveway. I agree that something needs to be done as it is such a dangerous stretch of road. Perhaps speed bumps?
