We were very sorry indeed to hear of the death of Rayleigh Town Councillor Dave Withers.
Chris Lumley would like to say the following :
” Dave Withers was the other Town Councillor for Grange Ward. He had lived all his life in the same house in London Road and was a son of Rayleigh. He had been a speedway rider down when we had the old stadium, a local taxi driver and was also a very skilled carpenter. He had done work at our house until quite recently. He fought June at one District election but it never stopped us being friends. His knowledge of the history of Rayleigh was unique because he had lived it. His most recent contribution to the Town Council was a history and description of our town which he sent to Rayleigh, Canada to see if they would be interested in a friendship with us. He was never able to finish that task.
London Road has lost a local lad and many of us have lost a friend.
