=============
The meeting will be chaired by the Revd Mike Lodge, Rector of Rayleigh and Rural Dean of Rochford Deanery. Doors will open at 6.30pm to enable questions in advance to be prepared.
The outline agenda for the evening will be:
Welcome (describing the way in which the meeting will to be conducted)
Brief introduction by the Chair of the candidates by name and party.
Short statement by each candidate (a couple of minutes)
Questions from the floor (each candidate invited to respond)
Specific response to the role of the churches (see note below)
Final few sentences from each candidate
The main political party leaders were interviewed recently by Steve Chalke of ‘Faithworks’, and perhaps the basis of Steve’s questions might form a part of our evening.

  • Chris – do you know if any hustings style events are taking place in the Rochford & Southend East constitueny – I know there was one at Milton Hall about a week ago, but are there any more?

  • Sean here are. Next week there is the following:

Chalkwell Churches and Southend Faith’s Forum are hosting a hustings meeting on Wed 28th @7.30pm @ St Andrews Church Westcliff.

  • Actually
i think the hustings I just posted is for Southend West. I know there is at least one being arranged for Rochford & Southend East at Christ Church (Colbert Avenue, Southend-on-Sea) probably for next week but I haven’t a date yet.

  • You can also listen to a pre recorded debate on Southend radio. It is to be broadcast on Wednesday 28 April at 9.00pm as well as being available on-line.

This will include the Green Party Candidate for Southend West, Barry Bolton, as well as others around the area such as the Labour Candidate for Castle Point, Julian Ware-Lane.

  • I know that Paul – Rector of St.Nicholas, Rawreth has invited all parties to take place in a debate at the church. Why has no-one picked up on this? Rawreth is very vunerable to being increased in size and it just cannot cope with the density of building being suggested and the infrastructure is not, and will not, ever, be in place. We cannot lose the amount of greenbelt land to “little boxes on a hillside” just to say Rochford RDC have reached their target set by this abomination of a government. Roll on 6th May!!

  • We attended the hustings and thought Susan did very well – far better than the Labour and UKIP people. But I’m very concerned that we haven’t had any LIb Dem election material at home yet. What’s going on? I also googled Liberal Democrat Eayleigh Wickford and came up with stuff about Sid Cumberland. Not good

  • Thanks for your kind words about Susan – and for the constuctive criticism. Her election leaflet is going out freepost and should be with you very soon (many have already been delivered)

As for Googling Liberal Democrat Rayleigh Wickford I know Google shows the words Sid Cumberland but if you click on it you get to some information and pictures on Susan and Brendan.

  • The reason that Google shows up the Rayleigh and Wickford Lib Dems candidate as Sid Cumberland is that the tag still contains the name Sid Cumberland and his name is still in the ‘promoted by’ bit at the bottom. Update these and Google will probably be showing Susans name by the time of the election.

  • Just for Rita’s clarification! The PPCs were in process of being organised for a hustings event in St Nick’s, Rawreth, when I became aware of a parallel effort for them to come to Holy Trinity, Rayleigh. Given the greater capacity of HT, I deferred to that venue. Graciously, nonetheless, Mike Lodge (Rector of Rayleigh) asked me to moderate proceedings there, which I was glad to do.

…and the question of housing and of planning process did indeed come up in the questions!!!
