We are pleased to see that the Echo and Essex Police have published CCTV photos of the vandals who have repeatedly damaged St Nicholas School Rawreth.

To quote Chief Inspector Prophet:

?This strikes at the very heart of the community and is especially reprehensible given that it is a school that is being targeted.

?The perpetrators may think of it as a bit of a laugh but it is the community who are left to pick up the pieces, and ultimately, the bill.

?Someone must know who is behind this and I would urge anyone who recognises these people or has information about those who may be responsible to contact my officers at Rochford police station as soon as possible.

?I would particularly ask parents: speak to your kids about these incidents. We know from speaking to people in the area that youngsters are being dropped off by their parents at the skate board park near the school in the evening, and then left to their own devices. They are not picked up again and are often left to roam around creating a nuisance before making their own way home hours later.

?We are determined not only to trace those responsible for this vandalism but are working with our partners on steps to minimise the chance of further occurrences. Rochford Council has already moved to clear debris from adjacent open land where youngsters congregate.?

Anyone with information about the incidents at St Nicholas School are asked to contact police at Rochford on 0300 333 4444 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Let’s hope these individuals are caught – and punished.

  • Hi everyone

Do please pass along any information you have about this. The children at the school are increasingly distressed about the damage done to their school building.

If any of you know of pertinent information, but are anxious about coming forward for whatever reason, you are welcome to speak to me – as your parish priest – in the first instance

  • Has anyone though of circulating these pictures around the local schools Sweyne, Fitz ect ect, as one of thier teachers may recognised them, they might not even be local but its worth a try.

Its just that I think I have seen one of the boys in the top picture hanging around the shops by GB’s near the station in a local school uniform, but I do not know its just his face is familiar.

I hope people bear in mind that not all teenagers are bad ! It just the minority.

When they get caught I hope they are made to pay for the damage they have caused, they should also be made to stand before the school and appologise publicly to the teachers and pupils this sort of behaviour is very intimidating for all involved.

  • The parents that just drop off their children there and expect them to make their own way home must take some of the responsibility. We are going back into the culture of ‘I cannot be responsible for what my children get up to’. This does not wash! We are all responsible for what our children do. The police and the Council should ensure that the parents of the children causing this damage end up in court, then we will see the response of the parents. Lets end this culture of parents not taking responsibility. Parenting has NEVER been easy but lets not take the easy way out!

  • I see that two local “schoolboys” aged 15 and 17 have been arrested in connection with this mindless vandalism. They haven’t been charged but I do wonder what the parents of a 15 year old from Hockley were thinking of allowing their 15 year old son to roam the streets at c.23:00 hours on a school night?

  • Couldn’t find anywhere else to post this – so thought this would be a good place….. it seems anti-social behaviour has kicked off again tonight, as we have had to call both the Police and Fire Service to attend Priory Chase as a gang off youths had taken a bin from the park and sit it alight with the aim of trying to ignite a wooden fence as well.

The anti-social behaviour on this development is getting worse and I have yet to see the Police or Council do anything constructive to tackle this problem, and quite frankly would now like to know why nothing is being done!

  • Thanks for the info,

Oddly enough, the Lib Dem group met with senior officers last night and discussed, amongst other things: youth nuisance, facilities for young people and the possibility of having park wardens….

Also there’s a meeting for residents about Sweyne Park next week – at SWEYNE PARK OPEN SPACE MEETING, SWEYNE PARK SCHOOL ,SIR WALTER RALEIGH DRIVE, RAYLEIGH, ESSEX. 7.30PM TUESDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2009

  • I see that planning permission is being sought by Essex County Council to erect a 1.7 meter fence and gate at the entrance to St Nicholas Primary School – presumably as a result of the repeated vandalism. In fact I’m amazed that planning permission is actually required!

This is a “no-brainer” as I was shocked that the front door of the school was effectively open onto the public pavement and highway.

How long will it be, or more accurately how much damage will there have to be and money wasted before RDC see sense and erect a fence around the football pitches and Skate Park to deter out of hours anti-social behaviour? How long will it be before any newly erected goal posts are broken? It’s not rocket science, wake up RDC!
