Thee’s going to be a special meeting of the District Council Development Committee on Wednesday January 18th. The purpose? To consider planning application 10/00234/OUT – land west of Oak Road, and north of Hall Road, Rochford

This is an outline application for “Residential Development (Class C3) of 600 Dwellings, Associated Access and a New Primary School on Land North of Hall Road, Including Infrastructure Associated with Residential Development, Public Open Space and New Vehicular and Pedestrian Access Routes.”

  • We have heard this all before and only half of all that is promised actually happens. Developers are after all they can get while giving as little back as possible, they are in the business of making as much money as possible. I have yet to meet a developer who really wants to enhance quality of life.

  • Big developments need to be properly monitored to ensure that things turn out the way they should. I would consider Downhall Park Way to be a success, especially because Sweyne Park was created as a result).

But like you, Mike, I can certainly think of cases where things simply haven’t gone the way they were supposed to….

  • Chris, I have never been a ‘NIMBY’ but I have lived in parts of the country (Ilford in the eighties)for example where I was personally threatened that my family may be in danger if I challenged the housing development where I lived.

  • RR it does when you have a south facing garden. We have moved just a few miles up the road to the Belfaires Estate in Leigh but a million miles from the situation we had in our close.
