It’s time to suggest names for Rochford District’s Citizen Of the Year .
As the District Council website explains:
If you know of someone in District who deserves an Award ? then the Chairman of Rochford District Council wants to hear from you!
We?re looking for extraordinary people, of all ages, who, even though they may not seek it, truly deserve recognition.

The Awards are made by the Council to recognise and acknowledge individuals of the District for their valuable hard work or outstanding achievements. The Awards are designed to honour those who may not normally be recognised for their efforts.

Nominations are open to all, and will be considered by the Judging Panel who will select winners in the three categories. An overall winner will also be chosen from the three category winners.

The categories are:

? Young Citizen (under 18 Years)
? Charitable Support (All Age Groups)
? Community Spirit (All Age Groups)

Jackie pope does so much for our community, she is so reliable and will help anyone who needs her help jackie runs a lot of clubs in the ST marks hall for all different ages and is someone you can talk to about anything. if it wasnt for jackie being around rochford id be on the streets causing trouble she does so much for this community its unreal to be honest i dont know what rochford would do with out her, she has helped me through so much its unreal if it wasnt for jackies help i wouldnt be studding so hard i would like to thank jackie pope for everything she has done and what she is still doing for all us teenagers and for our community
Libby , can I ask you one question, why would you be causing trouble ? I have never understood why boredom is used as an excuse for antisocial behaviour. Have you ever thought of the impact you have on others ?

RR: I can see where you are coming from. Boredom should NOT be used as an excuse for things.
But I’d hope you agree we do need places and support for young people (the ‘pre-pub’ age group).
If we did the following to my generation (the fifty-somethings) :
Took away our responsibilities (families, children, careers, mortgages)
Took away our homes and made us a junior member of a household with maybe a small bedroom of our own.
Took away our cars.
Made us too young to go into pubs but had cheap alcohol in every supermarket.
Closed some of the youth clubs and local cinemas that were around when I was a teenager.
I wonder if a minority of the fifty-somethings would start to cause a few problems 🙂
Chris, you will have me crying in my Tank Top soon. Just thought, there are ( what seems like ) millions of kids around at the moment but no sign whatsoever of parents coming forward to set up facilities for them. A case of somebody else’s responsibility ?
