“There May Be Queues”

The District Council advise:

Rochford District Council would like to warn residents that the access to the Recycling Centre for Household Waste in Castle Road, Rayleigh will be restricted until 20th August, due to gas works in Castle Road. This road will be one way, with access into the road from the Daws Heath Road end until this date.

The Recycling Centre will be open, but there may be queues.

The nearest Recycling Centre to this site is in Stock Road, Southend. However, as this site is run by Southend Borough Council, there is a charge of ?5.20 for non-residents to enter. This charge can be claimed back by writing to Essex County Council’s Waste and Recycling Team.

Chris Black adds:

“Things are getting pretty shambolic in the roads round there at the moment. I’ve seen people ignoring the temporary ‘no-entry’ signs at the west end of Castle Road. And a friend of mine was stuck at the Eastwood Road/ Daws Heath Road roundabout for 20 minutes, apparently because the recycling centre was closed briefly while lorries were in collected the waste containers.

Makes you wonder if things could have been handled differently. Also that the ?5.20 charged by Southend Council shows a classic case of different councils totally FAILING to co-operate for the benefit of the public.”

  • Hi

I tried to get to the Recycling Centre at Castle Road last weekend on a Sunday afternoon at approx 2.00pm. It took 1 x hour from Rayleigh Weir!! The hold ups were caused cars taking wrong turns against on coming traffic because of poor signage.

I feel sorry for he residents in Castle Lane trying to access to their own homes.

In answer to he comment above (Makes you wonder if things could have been handled differently) YES!

Do any retailers in the town have any comment relating to business, as most of my family are avoiding he town centre even using public transport!

  • I agree Chris that the temporary no-entry signs in to Castle Road seemed to be ignored!

Also the Lower end of Love Lane has permanent no entry signs that are frequently ignored.

  • I narrowly missed a head on collision in Castle Road a couple of days ago when someone came out of the Somerfield car park, ignored the ‘no left turn’ sign and turned left into the one way system. I’m sure I’m not the only one this has hapepned to. Not sure what can be done about it though.
