One of the things that the LDF sub-committee will be discussing tomorrow night is the minimum sizes of new homes. It’s proposed that the mimnium floor space standards be as follows:

Studio flat 32.5 sq.m
1 bedroom flat 51 sq.m
2 bedroom flat 66 sq.m
2 bedroom house 77 sq.m
3 bedroom dwelling 93 sq.m
4 bedroom dwelling 106 sq.m

We’d be interested to know how these compare with your home.

Incidentally, according to the Guardian, Ikea are planning ranges of products to suit British-size homes:

“…..Ikea’s UK chief Martin Hansson has done some soul-searching and wants its stores to “feel more British”…… Hansson confesses its Swedish based design team had previously failed to take on board “bay windows and chimney breasts” and the space constraints of living on a small island. “People are furnishing some of the smallest living spaces in Europe,” he says. “The average house has 85 sq m of floorspace and in new builds’ it’s just 76 sq m.”
