Smells

We received a complaint at the weekend from the Rawreth Lane area about a sewage smell. So we spoke to the Environmental Health Dept at the District Council today. They told us that there is a problem smell coming from the sewage treatment works in Watery Lane Rawreth.

Apparently the ‘cake’ (the dried and treated sewage) hadn’t been treated properly recently , but this is now being sorted out and things should start improving after tomorrow.

We are also told that the volume of the treated sewage/cake being limed in the Rayleigh West Works will be reduced in the autumn when other works outside the district become operational after their upgrades.

If you have any comments or the problems continue, please let us know.
