New Year, New Snow!

As 2010 begins with a light overnight dusting of snow, there’s a bit of good news to report: the District Council has now secured 10 tonnes of salt of its own, so it can now grit the most important pavements itself.

Together with 9 extra salt bins that are arriving soon, this should help the situation for pedestrians in our town centres.

Clearly the portfolio holder, Cllr Keith Hudson, hasn’t been idle over Christmas.

If this works out OK this will hopefully serve as an example of how smallish councils (like Rochford) can manage issues ‘on the ground’ better than huge ones like the County Council.

  • Thank You to Keith Hudson for the outbreak of common sense! I look forward to seeing a vast improvement in the sorry state of Rayleigh’s pavements next time we have icy or snowy weather!

Also I can only echo what Janet has already posted…Thanks too to Online Focus without which I certainly would be (and was previously) completely oblivious to what is actually happening in my community!

    Happy New Year 🙂

  • I ahve to say that as I went in to work I noticed that Rochford Square had a huge mound of salt deposited in one corner, which was great. Even better, I noticed today that the pavements in Rochford Town Centre were fully gritted and almost clear of ice and snow. A local solution to a local problem.
