The Lib Dems on the County Council want a more thorough investigation into improper use of council resources following the recent trial of Lord Hanningfield.

So they’ve put down a motion today, to be debated at full Council on 12th July, calling on the Council to establish:

? when it was aware of possible and / or unlawful use of Council resources;

? what internal or external investigations took place regarding these concerns and their findings;

? what action has been taken to recover money and benefits improperly received;

? what steps have been taken to enhance governance processes and guard against future improper behaviour.

Lib Dem Cllr Mike Mackrory, has said:

?As far back as November 2007 I raised my concerns with the Chief Executive, about improper use of Council resources by Lord Hanningfield, following a tip off. Here we are – three and a half years later – and we are still waiting for the truth to come out. Now is the time to restore faith in our processes, otherwise the public will continue to view politicians with contempt.?
