Overall, a good meeting. Here’s some highlights:
Tory town councillor Roland Adams asked about recent housbuilding figures, and was tols that 810 dwellings had been built in the District between April 2001 and March 2006
Lib Dem campaigner Mike Nobes had submitted a very detailed question about planning enforcement . Shaun Scrutton said that a detailed answer would be included in the minutes, but “All reports of alleged breaches of planning control are investigated”
Another town councillor, Cheryl Roe, wanted action on parking outside schools, especially Grove Wood and Rayleigh Primary.
Our Lib Dem colleague Chris Lumley asked the police about how many knifings there had been in the district. The police couldn’t answer that one on the night – they supply us with details of how many woundings there have been, but woundings includes all sorts of things, apparently.
Chris Black asked about the Downhall Park Way / Rawreth Lane junction. The answer from County Highways was that money that should have been used on the junction had been handed back to Countryside Homes, but that money, including a sum from Asda, would be found for a scheme that would include horse-riders, cyclists and pedestrians…..
A brick culvert had collapsed in Crown Hill, Rayleigh during Thursday and it could take up to 8 weeks to fix it if an effort wasn’t made to do it more quickly. To get it done more swiftly, work would be done from 8 am to 8 pm, 7 days a week. County Highways expected to keep two lanes of traffic open on Crown Hill, to keep things moving.
To add to the fun, Rayleigh High Street would be closed from Bellingham Lane to Holy Trinity Church for at least 4 weeks from 27th July!. This was for renewal of gas pipes. The Gas company would work from 7 am to 8 pm 7 days a week. Notices would be going up on bus stops to advise passengers about temporary arrangements, and there would be an information cabin open as well. If you do have any queries you can also phone the gas company helpline on 08096 5678 – it’s their ‘community relations’ number
