Hullbridge Road Issues

We’ve had the following email from a local resident tonght:

I was asked when picking up my son from Happy Days nursery today whether I would sign a petition for a crossing to be installed on the Hullbridge Road by Lubbards Farm. I signed willingly as it is a very difficult road to cross at any time of the day and there is only pavement on the opposite side of the road to Lubbards Farm.

I wonder too whether there is also an argument for moving the 40mph speed limit to beyond Lubbards Farm?

Lubbards Farm is a busy estate with not only Happy Days nursery but also the Mushroom Theatre Company and Swimming Tales catering for children.

Could this issue be put on Online Focus for debate?

What do people think?

Let the debate commence…. 🙂

  • Thanks for signing BUT I am lead to believe that petitions count as one letter and that it is better to send a personal letter of support. These seem to have greater impact. Support has been received from Rayleigh Town Council and Chris and Ron are hoping to bring it up at the West Area meeting on Thursday. Sadly I cannot be there due to the activerochford sports awards evening. Stephen Castle our County Councillor has telephoned me and pledged his backing. Bruce

  • The money is available from the Community Initiatives Fund. But all users need to get behind this and write letters of support. I need to prove there is public demand and support. Letters can be left at Happy Days, Swimming Tales or Mushroom or put through my door at 12 Ferndale Road. Last word 9 schemes were put forward at the Town Council 6 were from / for Downhall ward. • I really do believe that a crossing is needed there. My daughter attends Happy Days and it is awful having to cross the busy road with her and my other daughter who is in a pram. Who do I address this letter of support to? Thanks

  • I agree it is a very dangerous area for pedestrians and also for cars trying to get out on to the main road from Lubards Farm. Visibility for cars pulling out is difficult and the speed of the oncoming traffic doesn’t help.

Maybe extending the 30mph speed limit and a proper pelican crossing would help both pedestrians and road users?
Surely a traffic/pedestrian survey between the hours of 3pm and 7pm on any week day would confirm the need?

  • It’s also very common for drivers to exceed the current 40mph spead limit, sometimes by a large amount.

I’d agree, it’s an accident waiting to happen and the suggested changes sound sensible.

  • Letters of support can come to me at 12 Ferndale Road or be left at Happy Days. Also bid in for money for new pavement between Mortimer and Ferndale Road. Agree a crossing at Lubbard’s may or should have the result of slowing traffic. Deanne come and collect me and we will stand there to complete the survey. You bring the cucumber sarnies and I will bring the tea. Chris Tomlin songbook optional.Bruce

  • Definitely agree with the need for a crossing, but no change to the speed limit.

Both my kids attended Happy Days, and I take them to Swimming Tales every week, so am familiar with the area. I do agree that the existing speed limit is often exceeded, so if this is an issue it should be enforced, rather than introducing unrealistically low limits that will probably still be ignored.

Of course, traffic along this road and Rawreth lane has increased recently due to ongoing development of the region, and will continue to get worse if the council push ahead with it’s current plans.
