These are the decisions that were made about specific highways locations:

Southend Road, Rochford – junction with Ravenswood Chase.
It was agreed that the carriageway would be widened here and a right-hand lane created, for safety reasons.Tracy Chapman asked for the verges to be cut back here.

Eastwood Road, Rayleigh – mini-roundabout with Websters Way

At the moment, when you are driving round thes mini-roundabout towards Rayleigh, there are two lanes leaving the roundabout, which encourages vehicles to go too fast, causing accidents. It was agreed that this would be narrowed to a single lane for a few metres.

Hullbridge Road/ Rawreth Lane roundabout , Rayleigh
It was agreed that the County Council would give the panel a costing for a full roundabout here.

Sutton Ford Bridge, Rochford
It was agreed that works would start on August 20th, with the proviso that all businesses and farmers would be advised now and the County would check with local farmers and ask what their plans were over the coming weeks.

Grass Verges
It was agreed that the verges in Sutton Road and Hullbridge Road be given priority. Tudor Way/Hawkwell Chase junction and Stambridge Road leading to Stambridge School were added to the list.

  • Hi again, Thanks. Are you saying that these individual decisions were made where the cost was not known at the time of the decision? If that were the case then I am getting pretty concerned about how this Panel/Forum is intended to work. Given you say that Panel did not know anything about other schemes which had been put forward because there was no documentation then how did the Panel arrive at a prioritisation of use of the budget against the needs of the District as a whole? I look forward to seeing the figures published when they are available against the Budget and if anything is left.

  • Hi again John. We were advised of the cost of each scheme, but we weren’t given a running total.

The Southend Road and Eastwood Road schemes were road safety schemes put forward by officers, not by members. The costs are £20,000 for the Southend Road Scheme and £25,000 for Eastwood Road. I believe that £30,000 is also being spent on Bus Stop improvements at the Anne Boleyn,Rochford Doggetts Close, Rochford , Grove Road , Rayleigh and Hockley Road Rayleigh (sorry for not mentioning these above).

IIRC we also agreed at the first meeting to spend a few hundrd pounds on a new road sign .

So on these figures total spend so far is about £75000
