Someone left the following question on the fixmystreet website last week:

Royal Mail Trolley chained to road sign

Reported anonymously at 09:26, Friday 7 August 2009
Sent to Essex County Council and Rochford District Council 4 minutes later

A Royal mail trolley has been left at the corner of Leslie Rd and The chase for nearly a week now. I have seen various others dotted around in Eastwood and Thundersley and have heard reports that these are permanent fixtures now due to health and safety! Why do Royal Mail think they can do this? They are unsightly and how long will it be before youths vandalise and try and dump them somewhere?

Does anyone have any answers on this one?

  • This is the case across Essex and probably the Country. My parents live in Leigh and Royal Mail have dotted plenty of them around tethered to benches and all sorts. Apparently it is due to health and safety and the amount our posties are now allowed to carry. I hope someone can come up with a better solution – soon!

  • I used to carry 2 bags full of Evening Echo’s delivering to Crown Hill, then fill up again and do Station Crescent and Upway from the age of 13 to 16. It never did me any harm so I do not understand a few letters causing such problems.
