  • For the last year I have sat quietly in the public gallery, trying to understand how RDC works – pretty quickly it seemed to me to be an orchestrated democracy, that became public knowledge on the night of 28th Feb 2014.
Could the above (10 ) non-aligned Councillors not become a loosely affiliated ‘voice of the people’ group , representing efforts to get recognition of the infrastructure overload heading our way ( Rayleigh- Hullbridge -Hockley ) ?.
The people need a clear rallying point , and would then ( as on the 28/02 ) attend the Civic Chambers and make clear who the electorate support – democratically .
    The big three :-
Construction traffic > Subsequent Domestic traffic impact.
Facilities > Schools / Doctors / Services impact
    Sewage Treatment capacity ( 800 Rayleigh + 500 Hullbridge + Bullwood Hall ?)

There is already a positive working relationship between the 6 X RDR, Green and LibDem Members.

I do not know what the new Independent Conservative Group stands for.

But they still hold Conservative positions as Chair of Audit and Vice Chair of Review Committee.

They did not vote against the Core Strategy Allocation of Sites on 25 February.

But there may be issues other than Saturday Afternoon Parking that they might find common ground with REAL Independents in the future.

  • John @ 2/3 – thanks for responding ; the public gallery afforded all those different parties a loud applause when they spoke out one after another on 25/02 – and offered a telling Stoney silence to the leader of the Councils words.
My point was that (let’s face it ) the public at large are generally apathetic when it comes to politics – disillusioned is the normal explanation, but the party politicizing
of local issues is now apparent and the people are angry and need leadership.
This is ovious by the growth of Action Groups throughout the area , nightly in the Evening Echo ( Southend/Rochford/Castle Point/ Wickford/ Billericay/ Basildon et al),
it is a cry for help because the “system” is not working for the electorate .
But you already know that , it’s why you are an Independent.
