Sign Of The Times?

When local companies put in a planning application for a business use they often write to councillors explaining their proposal and saying why they think it should be passed.

We’ve just received one such letter from a local service sector business. Nothing extraordinary about that, except for a phrase which says “We do hope it will receive your full support…. in this time of deepening Recession”

That’s the first time in many years that the word ‘recession’ has cropped up in a letter like this. A worrying sign of the times?

  • We talk ourselves into recession in the modern Great Britain!! Officially, we are NOT in recession yet, but will be if we react to all this “credit crunch” stuff …. Yes, fuels and food are a lot more expensive, BUT if we all tighten up a bit ( live to needs, not wants as a priority ) and businesses become more pro-active to increase their sales/turnover, sustained good growth can be continued and we will all benefit.

QUOTE: “People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, make them.” – George Bernard Shaw
