Green Hullbridge councillor Michael Hoy has mentioned on his website that Hullbridge Parish Council are going to be looking at 20 mph zones:

At the next meeting of Hullbridge Parish Council it has been agreed to put the issue of 20mph zones onto the agenda.
.
These zones use signage and subtle (and some not so) differences in road layouts to get drivers to slow down. They are not expensive to create and do not make use of speed humps as a matter of course.
.
Some of the changes could be as simple as painted signs on roads, narrowing of the road in places (as on the old A130 through Rettendon) and changes in road colour. These are shown in combination to help reduce speeds and would certainly be welcomed along Ferry Road especially around the school and shopping areas.

  • I live very close to the end of Downhall Park Way and feel that the whole of this estate would benefit from a 20mph speed limit. There are a number of sharp bends, many parked cars (which seems to be increasing) plus access to Downhall Primary School and Sweyne Park. I feel some people drive far too fast on this estate and maybe signage and some of the other measures mentioned would be of benefit.

  • Have to agree with you Sarah. DPW is indeed an accident waiting to happen.
There now seem to be more and more regularly parked cars – on blind bends, on both sides of the road and how strange that most of these are outside houses with ample vacant space on their driveways.

One particular car seems to be parked on a very busy blind bend just after Harberts Way ends and becomes DPW again. This causes cars coming round the bend to have to go over onto the other side of the road where, due to the nature of the blind bend, oncoming cars cannot be seen. Speeding just increases this particular danger too. Coupled with the sheer amount of cars, some quite inconsiderately parked, at school pick up times the road dangers are certainly increasing and a 20mph speed limit would be good.

Incidentally, I drive off the estate at 20 mph anyway and am always interested to note the amount of times I am regularly “tailgated”!
