When he was out canvassing in Hockley Road, Chris was asked by one resident about the lines of trees that were planted in what is now Fairview Playing Field and the road called “The Chestnuts”

She had been told that one tree was planted after the First World War for every Rayleigh soldier that had been killed, and wondered if it was really true.

This isn’t a burning political issue but it would be nice to know more….
