We hope the updates on the Essex Police website are giving people some reassurance. Tonight they advise:

…..Essex Police has been providing support to colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Service but also has extra resources in place to deal with violent disorder should it arise in the county.

There has been no large scale disorder in Essex akin to what has been happening in the capital and officers have vowed to take a robust approach to anyone who uses social networking sites to stimulate fictitious rumours…..

…..Between 50 and 100 Essex Police officers have provided support to the Metropolitan Police Service. There have been four incidents of violent disorder in Essex. A total of 20 people have been arrested. If you witness any incidents taking place then call 999. Amid intense pressure on police resources the military were taking an increased ? though still indirect ? role. Some police officers drafted into London were being housed at army barracks, while Essex police were using some army vehicles as backup.
