The people of Rochford District have come top in England for recycling this year – and our closest rivals, in South Oxfordshire, are apparently a bit unhappy about it ,and are trying to get the figures changed!

According to Waste Management World:

South Oxfordshire DC narrowly missed out to Rochford DC as the council with the highest proportion of household waste sent for reuse, recycling or composting by 0.68 percentage points.
_
In a statement on Thursday afternoon, a spokesman said the council had contacted the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and the Environment Agency as it believed its score had been undercounted.
_
“The council believes there may be an interpretation discrepancy in some underlying data which has reduced its rate by several percentage points, and accordingly is liaising with Defra and the Environment Agency over the matter,” a spokesman said.

What seems to have happened is that South Oxfordshire have had their initial percentage figure reduced because some of their recycled material was contaminated and couldn’t be used…… and they are stil disputing this…..
