The District Council website now has details of our Citizens of the Year.

“The overall winner of the Citizen of the Year Award was Derek Tyrrell. Derek has volunteered for a total of 34 years and has worked hard to achieve a huge amount for young people in his local community.

Derek has been part of the Hullbridge Boys Brigade since 1978. For more than 30 years he has organised fun activities for youngsters aged between 5 and 19 years old. From summer camping trips to leading football tournaments as well as huge amounts of fundraising, Derek has worked tirelessly for the benefit of young people in Hullbridge.”

“The winner of the Charitable Support Award was Mr John Dickson recognising his selfless commitment to the work of the Royal British Legion while the winner of the Young Citizen category was 12 year old Daniel Brooks for his work in raising funds for the 1st Hawkwell Scouts.

Unfortunately John passed away recently but his family collected the award on his behalf.”

“The winners of the Community Spirit Award were The Friends of Sweyne Park Open Space, who bring the community together with a concerted show of walks picnics and family days.”

These awards were all well deserved. If you would like to join the Friends of Sweyne Park, they have a facebook page here!
