Another application refused at last Thursday’s meeting was for 14 flats in the Approach, near Rayleigh station. It’s the site of an old commercial premises called Crystal House. You can download the full report here (971kb)

The scheme was for 7 2-bedroomed flats and 7 1-bedroomed flats, with 14 parking spaces. (Our council guidelines would be for 21 spaces). Chris and June Lumley spoke against the application, partly because of inadequate parking and lack of turning space ,but also the very high density (153 dwellings per hectare) and lack of ‘amenity space’ (part of the amenity space would be a roof garden, which some councillors felt would be a bit on the noisy side right next to the railway….)

In the end Chris and June moved refusal and got overwhelming support.the-approach
