In case you are not familiar with it, FixMyStreet is a national website that gives you an easy way of reporting a ‘street’ problem.

Just go to http://www.fixmystreet.com/ and then

1. Enter a nearby GB postcode, or street name and area:
2. Locate the problem on a map of the area
3. Enter details of the problem

and then leave it to the website operators to pass it on to the correct local authority.

For example, someone has just a street light is out on a sharp bend at the Poynters Lane / Cupid Chase junction in Great Wakering and written:

“This is a very sharp bend, and at night it is very difficult to see the angle of the bend, especially if you are a visitor to the village and are not aware of how sharp the bend is. quite dangerous!”

The complaint was forwarded to Essex County Council 5 minutes later.

This is where something like FixmyStreet is really useful – it gives an easy way of specifying a location. Particularly useful for rural places like Canewdon and Rawreth where ‘the person at the other end of the phone’ doesn’t know the area.
