Following on from the discussions over Downhall School, it’s interesting to see what the people who boughtb the old school building in Rawreth are doing now.

There’s a planning application in from “The Day Nursery ” , Church Road , Rawreth, to keep two old demountable classrooms for another 5 years and form an access for coaches plus extra parking for 12 cars

They are planning to use the building to run a breakfast and after school club for children:

The nursery currently operates between 7.30am and 6.00pm with the two applicants and eight additional full or part time staff.
The breakfast club would not open earlier but would provide breakfast with those children leaving for school by commercial coaches. These coaches would have left the site by 8.30am. The applicants envisage that a further 30 children would be attending this club and who would be returned in the same way between 3.00 ? 3.30 pm and collected at 6.00pm.

Rawreth Parish Council are in support, saying:

Support the nursery as they have worked hard in building a successful business in the local community. Have no objection to this application provided Essex County Council agree access from Church Road.

You can download the full officers report here (126 kb). It’s recommended for approval and will be passed unless a councillor calls it in before 1 pm on Wednesday.
