A Cry From the Heart

Quite a lot of councillors time seems to be spent these days dealing with pavements and roads needing repairs. (Though these are actually the responsibility of the County Council).

This is an example. Chris Black received the following email on Saturday, which we publish below with permission and a bit of editing:

I am absolutely furious
.
Good afternoon Chris
.
As you will see by the title of my email I am absolutely furious – just what do I pay ?150 per month on my Council Tax when we can’t even get a decent pavement in the High Street.
.
[My husband] and I went shopping as usual this afternoon paid a visit to the Library (thank God we still have one) and on our return into the shopping area outside the Estate Agent next door to Superdrug courtesy of the very bad paving there I went flying. Lucky I did not break my glasses but have done my spine and back no good after all the expensive treatment I have had in
recent months … I do not appreciate falling flat on my face hurting myself and looking very undignified. I have to say that I have seen more than one person sitting outside the Estate Agent’s Office after having taken a fall and did not expect it to be me. If I had time to spare and was a great more unscrupulous I would have had [my husband] take me to Southend Hospital and then
gone for the whole suing programme …. I am not such a person.
.
I have to lie down now as my knees are bruised, my spine is painful and I am shaking all over.

It’s a very upsetting situation. Chris has suggested that in this instance the lady either contacts the county councillor for the High Street area (Cllr Mavis Webster – she might be dealing with other similar cases already) or contacts the county council directly.
