In our post a few days ago we mentioned that the Council’s LDF Sub-Committee consists of 6 councillors – 5 Conservatives plus Chris Black.
To be precise, it consisted of:

(the date shows when we were appointed to the committee for this year.) The committee comprised two members from Rayleigh, two from Hockley, one from Rochford and one from Great Wakering.
Strangely enough, today the council website showed SEVEN members – SIX Conservatives plus Chris Black:

When Chris checked this with the council he was told that Cllr Carole Weston had resigned from the committee, and had been replaced by Cllr Heather Glynn and Cllr Colin Seagers. This meant we had two members from Rayleigh, one from Hockley, one from Hawkwell, one Rochford and two from Great Wakering.
It was carefully explained to Chris that membership was in the gift of the portfolio holder, Keith Hudson, and could be changed just like that. It was also said that Chris’ place was also in the gift of the portfolio holder. Chris politely disagreed, pointing out that the sub-committee was a sub-committee set-up by Full Council, and although the individual membership could be changed, he didn’t think the number on it could be increased to seven without the decision of Full Council. What’s more, as a proper sub-committee, the council had to allow a LIb Dem member.
