This Friday, 8 May, sees the 70th Anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day.? A three-day weekend of events is taking place across the UK.

As part of the commemorations, Friday, 8 May sees a national day of remembrance, with a Service of Remembrance being held at the Cenotaph, in London.?? At 3 p.m., a national 2 minutes’ silence will be held.?? The timing of the Service of Remembrance is to coincide with the moment Winston Churchill broadcast to the nation on VE Day 70 years ago in 1945.

The Holy Trinity Church, Rayleigh, is holding a Service of Remembrance at 2.45 p.m. on 8 May, to coincide with this event and to mark the 2 minutes’ silence at 3 p.m.? If you are in the area, you are welcome to attend.

On Saturday, 9 May at 11 a.m. the Holy Trinity Church, Rayleigh, will be ringing its bells, to coincide with many other Churches and Cathedrals across the country.

On Saturday, 9 May, the Royal British Legion, Rayleigh Branch is holding an indoor street party and fancy dress competition, with a 1940s theme, at 1.30 p.m., followed by an adults street party in the evening commencing at 8 p.m.??
