World Autism Awareness Week 2019 is taking place between the 1st and 7th April. With World Autism Awareness Day also falling in the same week on Tuesday 2nd April, there is a large focus on the condition. The aim is to make the week bigger and better than ever with the intention help create a society that works for autistic people everywhere.

Autism is a lifelong, developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with and relates to other people, and how they perceive the world around them. It is a spectrum condition with all autistic people sharing certain common difficulties. Others also have additional needs such as learning disabilities, mental health issues or other conditions. Because of this, autistic people need different levels of support however all can be helped to live a more fulfilling life of their own choosing.

The Lib Dems support World Autism Awareness Week and believe that diagnosis times need to be improved across the UK.
