Great Wakering Parish Council (who update their website more often than most…) want to introduce a new award for their village – Villager of the Year.

As they say in their latest newsletter :

Villager of the Year

The Council would like to bring in a new award called ?Villager of the Year?. The Proposer and Nominee must be residents of Great Wakering and not politically active or a member of the Parish Council. The Nominee must be over voting age and has done something for the village or people within the village. The proposal should be made in no more than one hundred words. The nominations need to be received at the Council?s Office by 31st January 2007 and Councillors will select the winner.

  • I’d like to nominate whoever it was that persuaded the (unnamed, but I know who it is) resident who was responsible for removing all character and authenticity from the village pond, to sell his house and leave Wakering for good.

I have a nasty feeling that this resident has a sufficiently needy ego that he’ll work out some way of getting nominated for this dubious award.

In the meantime I’d nominate Simon Jay – not just a barber, but does loads of work with the kids in the village. Top geezer.
