After the heavy rains a couple of nights ago Ron Oatham had a phone call from a resident in Downhall Park Way – the ditch there had flooded and the water had threatened his property.

The resident had phoned the District Council’s emergency after hours number on 01268 527317 but couldn’t get an answer!

Ron had investigated what happened. Rochford actually buys in to the after hours service that Basildon Council runs. When they get a call from a Rochford resident, they then phone the appropriate Rochford officer at home.

What happened that night was that Basildon number was overwhelmed with calls from residents concerned about flooding – we think that some kind of voicemail service should have kicked in so that residents could leave a message. But it didn’t happen.

Ron is still investigating the matter…
