It seems that Rochford District Council has just about got to the “Silver Standard” for animal welfare.
One of the services it offers isn’t very well known. If you find a dead pet somewhere – perhaps at the roadside – contact the council, or their contractor, Sita. They will collect the body and take it to a vet in Ashingdon. He will then use a scanning device to see if there’s a microchip on it somewhere in order to contact the owner. Otherwise, he will store it for a week in order to give the owners of a missing pet the chance to check with him ….
