Those New Tickets….

We’ve seen on Facebook that some people are unhappy with the new-style tickets being issued from the machines in the council car parks . We’ve asked the District Council about this and had the following response from an officer:

All the new ticket machines have now been installed and from this Monday the new charges and payment options were implemented, the response we have received have been very positive and motorist are beginning to use the chip and pin and pay by mobile phone options.

The new tickets no longer have a sticky back and there are a number of reasons for this:-
_
1. The new tickets are cheaper than the sticky tickets and more environmentally friendly.
2. There is no need to have the split double ticket now that the trader refund scheme has ended.
3. Many motorists would placed the previous tickets on the dash without using the sticky back to avoid leaving marks on their car windows.
4. We received a high number of challenges from motorists claiming they had stuck the ticket to the window and it had fallen off, this was usually due to the weather causing condensation on the windows, the extreme heat or the motorist not pressing the ticket to the window firmly.
5. Most Local Authorities use non sticky tickets in their pay and display car parks.
6. The new tickets have been tested and they do not flip over when the door is closed, in fact I have tested this myself, if it is an extremely windy day and doors on both sides of the car are opened it is a possibility that the ticket could move, however, it is the responsibility of the motorist to ensure before leaving their vehicle that the ticket is clearly visible and showing the date and time and this is displayed on the machines and notice boards.

We receive a number of challenges from motorists for tickets being place upside down and this is generally due to human error, a PCN must be issued as the CEO has no way of knowing whether that ticket is valid. However, if visible the CEO will take a note of the serial number displayed on the back of the ticket and if this concurs with the ticket produced when submitting the challenge, the PCN is generally cancelled provided it was valid at that time.

  • Bought a new style ticket on Monday – put it on dashboard and as I shut the door the ticket flew on the floor. I spotted it and unlocked the door and put the ticket back. Now just trying to find somewhere that sells small adhesive pockets to put on the windscreed.

  • How difficult can it be – buy the ticket, close the car door, check if it’s still on the dash. If not open the door and replace. How do these people cope with a real crisis ?
