The gas main replacement programme in Rayleigh still goes on. For example the junction between Teignmouth Drive and Downhall Road , Rayleigh, will be closed from 2nd February for a maximum of 8 weeks.
It will be interesting to see if people in Teignmouth Drive itself find this a huge annoyance, or a chance for some peace and quiet…..
Incidentally we are still waiting to hear if Skanska, the company doing this work, are willing to sponsor this year’s Rayleigh Arts Festival.
Not sure about 2nd February but the road was all coned off today in preparation!
anad all cones removed for today
when I saw what was happening I phoned Essex Highways who went ballistic!
The comment was “THEY CAN’T DO THAT-IT’S ILLEGAL” There were supposed to be advance warning signs and notices in the paper and the traffic order does not come into legal effect ’till the 2nd of February.
Result:- within the hour man and van arrived and cones lights and signs disappeared
I’m told that the work won’t be starting ’till Eastwood Road is opened
(this appears to be about 10 days behind schedule)
