The August Daytime Meetings

After the fiasco of the 22-minute district council meeting on July 19th, yet another sub-committee has been set up to give more time to look at the council’s planning policies. Instead of meeting in the evening, it will meet in the daytime – on August 4th, 10th and 15th. Meetings will start at 9.00 am and finish at 4.00 pm. There will be a buffet lunch provided for councillors.

These meetings will deal with very important subjects – housing design, the number of sports pitches for the district, car parking standards and and design guidelines for conservation areas. It is unfortunate that the Conservative group have arranged these as daytime meetings knowing that Phil Capon (their own chairman of the planning policy committee) and Chris Black (the Lib Dem on the planning policy committee) won’t be able to go to them.

We hope that the Conservatives who will be going will do a good job.

It’s not realistic to expect the public to spend whole days keeping an eye on them. But if the weather stays hot you can at least go down to the council chamber and relax there – because they’ll have the airconditioning turned on!
