Scooter boys and scooter girls rode into Rayleigh at the weekend. They were helping publicise the Ska, Reggae and Soul Night on 14th March at the Mill Arts and Events Centre (Mill Hall).
Steve Henderson who is lead singer of performing group The Upbeats, is a scooter aficionado and led the cavalcade of scooters into Rayleigh. Steve and his band mates are seasoned professionals having performed with the likes of UB40, Status Quo and Level 42, but Friday’s gig will be the first outing of the Upbeats new line up. They will be supported by popular Westcliff group The Calmers who were recording new music at the weekend; The Calmers have performed at Chinnerys and the Ironworks.
A spokesperson for ‘Friends of Mill Hall’, who hosted the publicity event, told the Echo “The Rayleigh music scene has come on in leaps and bounds recently with a number of venues providing regular live music. The Mill is leading the way with several concerts and shows every week, in addition to the many daytime events. We are looking forward to the Ska, Reggae and Soul night on Friday, it’s not often you can enjoy a new band of top professionals and a popular local group for just £12!”
